  "Oh, no—" Jasmine stammered. "It's not—"

  He approached her and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "It's okay. I understand. I'm sure this is a lot to think about." He closed his eyes briefly, then looked across the room at the window. "You know, Luke and I haven't gotten things right in a while. But tonight, this felt right."

  He paused for a moment, then continued, "We will be here for you, should you need anything. It doesn't matter if you only want to be friends. We would both like to see you again."

  She sighed and reached a hand out, touching his firm chest. "I'm not leaving, silly."

  Evan's eyes widened.

  Jasmine tried to suppress the grin on her face.

  He chuckled softly. "Luke will be relieved. He was looking forward to making you breakfast."

  "And I bet I'll love it. Just let me take care of something and I'll be back to bed in a minute."

  "Okay." He leaned forward and kissed her lips. Then he turned and strode back down the hall.

  Jasmine watched his perfectly sculpted ass disappear into the dark. Then she turned and touched her call list. The phone rang for an extended period of time. Just when she thought it was about to go to voicemail, it clicked.

  "Hmm—hello?" said the sleepy voice on the other end of the line.

  "Hi, Rodney? Sorry for waking you." She wasn't really sorry at all. "There's something I've been meaning to tell you."
